I believe that everyone goes through a duration of searching for the right work, whether alone or through a recruitment agency.

Not realizing that there could be one out there who is actually bothered to go beyond his scope of placing a candidate in a company and simply taking his cut of the pie, I was pleasantly surprised when a trusted friend recommended me to Dougles Chan.

I did not know exactly what to make of him the first time I met him, only with the impression that he seemed strict, and then I realized this as I was thinking it through after meeting him: he actually bothered to know what work scope and environment might be suitable for a candidate, in helping to maximize the candidate’s capacity.

Let me just put it in simple words. If this book is being sold for $XX, it'd create a fortune for the one who puts the book into practice. The name speaks for itself. It is a manual. A manual is meant to be referred to. Even when in doubt, it is a good source to refer back to. A well to draw from in the ocean of Human Resource Management. Very bite size for the busy individuals. And what I really like about it, its the pointers. a good quick references and inspiration of ideas.

I am beginning to fall in love with Dougles materials. As it is catered to Singaporeans in search of an opportunity. He has expounded it in a way that Singaporeans can relate to and not some pie in the sky dream that most are seeking for. A very down to earth writer with loads of experience. A person that I will want to look forward to more insights about HRM. 

Definitely Doug's the man, when is being put to practice is worth more than a million dollars What I like is the ultimate data secret! A lot of business fail as they took the hard approached. When Dougles has a proven system where it has to be followed. Funnels and sources of information and leads can be found in his manuscript. 

And as I read it, I was really shocked to that he has such a perspective to the areas of searches! The sections are the parts that he gave resources and links. It has made business and work much easy! Indeed he is a solution provider!

Areas that he has learnt from his recruitment experiences are spelt out in details help the readers to gain more on the basics before you move to the next step. Read on and you will find out that the information which you will get to read worth more than 15 years of efforts and experience which you never get to find on other places!

The author emphasized the proper usage of the term ‘forest fire’, which works like wonder! Very details are given with layman terms explained. Reader would only want to continue reading for more. It is a simple formula on how it works to be applied to recruitment of candidates.

This section on the methods to cut running cost to almost zero and fantastic websites provided, which offer best cost savings and value for money deals from name card printing, creation of website to office rental for professional looking image is what I find this manuscript value for money.  He also offers suggestions in interview spots, which are convenient to candidates and clients. Image of the consultants in terms of attire will have an impact on the company. Ways to better cash flow management are given as bonuses which reader can make full use of.

He examined the 3 differences type of formation of companies and provided the Order of preference on which type of formation is ideal with pros and cons analyzed.  Guidelines are given to provide the assurance that the setting up of the agency is a breeze from the expert. He made the readers consider the factors to consider carefully before you buy or invest in anything (e.g. delegation of duties) that will free up the time which can be meant for other things.

He also put the readers whether to drive the new business as a second income while holding to full time job or main business.  Many methods are given in generating leads to potential candidates and clients to on going successful recruitment businesses. Examples of creative advertisements are provided for users’ reference and guidelines to create is given.

Follow up with clients adds to personal touch. Build strong bonds and rapport with your top clients only and work on the best marketing strategy for a win-win situation -price/ credit term/ guarantee period for a replacement in the event your candidate leaves the company, are critical to long term working relationships with clients.

Summary of the whole process is given for users to have an easy at a glance view on the steps again to refresh in the whole process of setting up the business.  Entrepreneurs are being motivated by helping them to overcome by having to be able to solve the problems and focus on your objectives.

One to one mentorship program by the author himself would be provided from familiarization of the rules and hands one on recruitment process and clinching of deals and finally how to expand your businesses further in term of recruitment and the process of expansion. The independent stage, in this stage you will be fairly independent and you will still be able to ask me for advises anytime you need.

Mentoring and transforming one's life is what Dougles is interested to bring and he welcomes people who want to help themselves and by letting him to help them. This manual is definitely worth the money!

Financial and personal freedom—that is everybody’s dream. I must confess that when I started the review for this book, the first person who came to the back of my mind was this friend of mine whom I know was working as a recruit agent. I would love to shout out, “If your recruit agent is not doing his or her best to understand your needs or find you a great job today, show them this book today! If your HR department colleagues or subordinates are not performing well enough to earn a grade A appraisal today, show them too!” No one would reject an extra dose of booster, do they?

Whilst reading, I began to think of those people around me who have been constantly distracted by the recent bad economy and has chosen to focus on the repercussions of it. I wondered, why do people complain about getting bad jobs these days? Why do people find it hard to look for a job these days? Also, why are companies experiencing high turn-over rates when it comes to hiring? I say that this could very well be due to how recruit agents and recruitment agencies help their clients and candidates! If you are a recruit agent, I highly recommend that you give some attention to this manual here and use it to your best knowledge to help all your candidates!

I am sure people out there do love reading books that give us an idea. The very idea that speak for itself—that each and every of us are in charge of our destinies! Just like what Dougs had done here once again. As with his other manual, Job Seekers Power Manual, Dougs must have had a great time enjoying himself writing his life experience! Boy, I wouldn’t have that kind of courage he portrays to put his personal real-life romance case studies in public light for us to do self-assessments! And I must applaud him for that as without these personal examples, some of us might not even be able to understand what and how we should self-reflect upon.

These are his secrets, and I confidently say that’s what makes this self-help manual works. It is written in such a way it is so easy to read at one glance and make the reader feel as if he or she is the author’s friend. One lasting effect of the book after one has read it is that anyone would have easily remembered its contents. Undeniably, he is the spokesman who brings us into his world and gives us advices in a non-threatening way, plus the efforts to summarize the main point at the end of each chapter. Just how many of us would do self-reflections these days? I was just glad that I have picked up a wealth of information through his 25 chapters of “Been there, done that.”

Now, the author is a believer of “you can do something to change your life, and you must really get your butt out there to do something in order to achieve it!” I love the way Dougs is persuasive and sincere in telling us how we can change our mindset to make our lives change for the greater effect! Now, everyone can say that they know that theory too. But not everyone can sound as positive as he is! How many of these people out there can really put it to practice and into reality? I do not hold the answer. These days, everyone is afraid of changes, aren’t they? We all need that burst of extra positivity in us, just like how this book certainly works for me.

Dougs’ idea is really a virus. It impedes your mind and makes one wonder how they can better their lives in time to come, especially in this bad economy and most importantly, it is easily an inspiring book for even laymen like us. For those aspiring HR personnel, this is a great treasure book which guides you to all you need to know about being in the recruitment industry. You can forget about being shy and approach your clients and candidates from now on with much more guts and professionalism!

If Doug can, you can too! Why not take it and see where you will end up? You are the only one who can change how things will be. Use it to your advantage!

If we are lucky enough to progress to a second interview, well done! ... and if we do get the job offer, Better still! However, if we are one of the many who are not shortlisted, assuming that qualifications do match the pre-requisites of the job opening, the burning question then is 'What didn't I do right during the interview? Was it something I said? Was it how I looked/behaved?'. Unfortunately, we cannot expect to obtain suggestions for improvement from the interviewer on how we can make ourselves look/sound better in our next interviews.
 
As you read Dougles' manual, you will agree with me that you will often stumble across that oh-c'mon-isn't-that-common-sense feeling. Sad to say, many interviewees don't make it a point to adhere to the simple do's and don'ts of a job search process, beginning with the intro letter, CV, up to after the interview. Many a times, an interviewee can make himself/herself look really undesirable during the process. This isn’t the kind of manual anyone in the right mind would dare to be caught dead reading! Not for the shy and easily embarrassed. Not that you will be labeled as a retrenched worker or an unemployed trying to find ways to land a job once you are caught in the act of peeping through the pages at the corner of the train cabin, I am just afraid you won’t be able to borrow it from the library anytime sooner once you give it a miss! Don’t get skeptical yet with this manual, I say.

30 minutes is all you need to be done with this manual. But wait a minute. You didn’t hear me say anything too bad yet right? So don’t be "gan chiong" (dialect for impatient) and pick up the rotten tomatoes on the ground and throw at me yet!

The fact and the truth is—I do love this manual. I really do adore it close to my heart! I have always been inspired to shudder at the very thought and sight of how so called award winning titles touching the same topic genre can always so self-righteously claim that they are award winning when they are in fact some unofficial sleeping aids. Well, they claimed to be so, but oh well, I didn’t say so. Yes, the only good they do is those are better than doctor prescribed sleeping pills! But thank god, Dougles kept my head nodding—to say “That is so right!”

Truly compelling, simple stories, straight to the point with spasms of sarcasms and black humor in its entire rightful place, all combined, and Dougles is a Midas’ touch. This one here has a good recipe that you would love to share with your loved ones around, and perhaps your enemies at workplace. It definitely wouldn’t work had he not been sarcastic enough to crush down the usual silly thoughts and ego problems many of us face in job hunting.

It’s a wake up call for all of us, be it whether you have already secured a good job or looking for one. Every Human Resource employees should own a copy of this in their HR career. Surely we would have encountered people with resume disaster problems before. And surely, we would have our fair share of thunderstorm days whereby we really need the help to get us ready and going for job interviews.

You will be truly surprised how well the scenarios and case studies portrayed here can point fingers to the kind of people we meet everyday. That said, Dougles’ main ingredient in this manual actually lies in his sincerity. And this is what I call, striking chords in a job seeker. I believed that every job seeker would love to be treated with due respect to them and have a good representative like Dougles to represent them, giving them the confidence to dare go for the job most suited for them.

The examples are in the perspective of the employer, which is a cut above many employment guides. Why do I say so? Many guides focus on bringing out the job seeker’s potential, character and values. However, these guides fail to acknowledge that employers are the key in job seeking. Job seekers who are able to identify what the employer wants will then be able to hold a trump card above all the other applicants.

The manual has also summarized its points nicely into easy to understand paragraphs, making the manual not too lengthy and easy to digest. This makes it stand out as job seekers are in need of a job, and they do not need lengthy manuals which tell them how to describe themselves in a resume, how to package themselves nicely and what not's. This manual goes directly to the point, letting frustrated job seekers know what they need.

Also, the key point in this manual is that it is timeless and therefore can be used regardless of how long it remains with the reader. The points given are the fundamental keys that a job seeker needs, and these fundamentals are constant, even in this ever changing working environment, since the mentality of employers will always remain the same regardless of changes in society or economic landscape.

In my opinion, this manual will definitely be a necessary addition to a job seeker’s toolkit as it gives the person the necessary edge to outdo everyone else.

I would definitely recommend this manual to all my friends, especially those who are presently graduating from the university. Based on experience and conversations with graduating students from our local universities, I feel that our local universities are not doing enough to ensure that the students are guaranteed a job. The only reason why our universities have high graduate employments boil down to the fact that companies in Singapore only have that small pool of degree holders/professionals to tap on. However, in the long run, these university graduates will lose out to other job seekers when they search for another job, as they lack the skills taught in this manual.

I am interested in the topic in Chapter 12 on 'Success Strategies for interviews'. The whole world is currently undergoing an economic recession, times are bad, and would one say. Tens of thousands of people have just been retrenched within the past two months. Hundreds of applications are made for available jobs, either to eke out a source of livelihood, or to gain some allowance and job experience before proceeding on with their academic route. The conventional of applying for a job – sending one’s resume through the email has to employers become trite, unless one’s impressive track records could result in a second look. The first step in the manual touches on the basis of creating a lasting impression on your future employer without even meeting them, with tips to spice up your resume in just a jiffy, allowing it to stand out from the rest.

All in all, the manual guides one through the process of getting a job, more differently than you would have ever done so. Even if you’re currently employed, what is the harm of reading the manual? The tips not only help one who’s currently unemployed, but also the employed for bearing for future references.

A light read from the start to the end, Dougles Chan made use of his linguistic ability to allow anyone to read it with ease. A manual that will only take up less than an hour’s time, why not spare that precious hour reading this instead of sending the same, aimless resumes? Recommend this to your friends, as I would for a read to brighten up their day by nodding at the mistakes commonly made as pointed out in the manual.

It teaches me a lot of things and correct my past mistake like intro myself and not them. Its gives me confident and sufficient knowledge/skills to apply for a job.

I would recommend it to my friends who are currently finding for jobs. It’s because this would help them in a better understanding of the procedure how to apply for a job. Like I said, the manual is well organize and it will guild them along the way with the most effective knowledge to capture the employer hearts to read their short and interesting intro letter as well as their resume. This is very important because an intro letter and a resume is the first step to let the employer get to know about you and also the first step for the employer to want to know more about you. Thus by having the right steps with skills and knowledge ,you can say that is a half of a battle won.

The topic which I am interested in is Chapter 7. This is because it is so true that the more we send our resume to different companies, the higher chances of getting back a respond would be higher. Well, what is so interesting about this chapter is that we need to use our brain to play smart even we are a job seeker. We need to get ourselves out there to explore more rather than waiting for people to tell you what to do. Everyone has a brain, it will be up to them whether they use it or not. The moral of the whole chapter 7 is to tell us that in life, brain is the only key to get success in life.

My overall view for this manual is great as it have sufficient knowledge to let a job seeker to know the actual way to get a job within a week. It is possible if you follow closely with the manual. Well, brain plays a part in finding a job too. Overall conclusion, Well done for the writer as what the manual says is really realistic.

The best topic is "NLP in action".
